By last count, we were roughly 25 votes out of first place in the ABA competition. Twenty-five votes stand between us and ever-lasting glory. Who among us can now claim that we have done enough when we are mocked from across the Internet?
It is clear that there are pockets of untapped votes that are waiting to be harvested. There are cousins once removed and step nieces. They are not really proxies but people yearning to establish this special tie with you. To assist you, I have enclosed a family map:
The ABA competition is also a good time to renew relationships with former boyfriends and girlfriends, so long as the breakup was amicable and would not offer another opportunity to degrade you. Then there are your family doctors, newspaper delivery kids, and baristas. Have you taken every opportunity to solicit votes? It is a small matter during that proctology exam to mention between coughs that there is an interesting competition going on over at the ABA site.
Last week, Buddha is Laughing’s selection of Henry V was selected to inspire the troops. This week I had to go with Vince’s selection of Bluto. Just as we didn’t quit when the “Germans bombed Pearl Harbor,” we cannot afford to quit now — not unless you want your kids growing up speaking Satyricon:

Professor,
Perhaps the loftier benefit of this contest lays more in a hopefully accurate assessment indicating the number of individuals who truly find your efforts valuable.
I do.
Hey Jill, this aint Jack,
Was it you or me who done woke up on the wrong side of the bed this ‘morn. If JT’s posts are sexist, then color me scarlet and guilty as charged. I would not want any change in his posts whatsoever–Men/Mars…Women/Venus… Jack n’ Jill / Jill n’ Jack.
You and I like each other and we most often agree, especially regarding Mr. Obama; and I voted for the Sorry Son of a Soggy Salty Sea Biscuit (SSOASSSB).
As long as commenters posts are not filth-strewn as the one about them Jews n’ bike lanes, then I say, let freedom of speech ring.
Hey Venus…
I am going to make a criticism of this blog. I love JT’s post. Although they are often more sexist than I care for, they are always thoughtful, often hilarious, and they contain a depth of legal discussion that is accessible to the layperson. Kudos to JT for his intelligence, consistent wit and bizarre choices of topics.
My complaint centers on some of my fellow commenters. I have made arguments that are not popular on the left (against the legality of Obama’s actions, for example) or with men who believe they have a right to tell women how to think and feel. The viciousness of response to ideas that are different, by both men and women, has been a reason that I think long and hard before posting on this blog. That is a shame because this should be a space for arguing ideas without attacking fellow posters. I would guess there have been other people who have not joined in the discussion because they have seen the vicious attacks, instead of reasoned response. This hurts the blog as a whole and it should stop immediately.
FF LEO–
Eddy Arnold was one of my father’s singers. I do hope you’re going to write a full song parody for us–like the one you did about John Yoo.
How many voters have forsaken you, and hated to let your vote grow
How many, How many, I wonder, but I really don’t want to know…
229 v 186
227 v 186 I fear you have lost, Sir….momentum is everythang.
Pardon Me?: Perhaps those are fair-weather friends.
Jill,
I think you’re on to something. Do you suppose Legion would get one vote or a thousand?

Where are THEY?

I also asked in a couple of postings that that thread be censored. I could say ‘moderated heavily’ or some other euphemism but in the end it’s censorship soooo: some of the postings went beyond discourse, even discourse driven on one side by barely contained bigotry, into name calling of the most base kind. Now that the thread is longer those postings do get kind of lost, you’re right about that, but for awhile they were becoming frequent to the point of defining the thread. I stopped reading and posting there at that point. I am glad the thread moved on/back to a more rational level. Generally I’m not a censorship advocate (I think this is the first time I have taken that position here) so I’m glad the it’s more under control now.
224 v 186 = 38 votes
Dah Dah Daaaaaah…Dah Dah Daaaaah…
If you are one of the demons that pastor drove out and you would like to vote for this blog, we have souls available–cheap. We can make it a veritable soul black Friday for the demonic shoppers who are looking for a last minute holiday bargain. Don’t forget to stop at Starbucks and make some of the patrons there go insane.
Then, fell free to manipulate the vote in our favor while getting a relaxing pedicure for your long nails. A tail and horn treatment would be a nice ending to the day.

“Recruit the votes of alternate universe incarnations of yourself if necessary. Just don’t deal with any selfs with goatees.”
Especially if you’re a woman! A goatee looks MUCH worse than a post-menopause mustache, doncha know.
FFLEO,
I’d say most of our Energy is being converted into Heating the atmosphere over in the 9/11 nee Global Warming thread, with a another large percentage of said energy being converted into acoustic waves of great violence.
Everyone else:
That’s the kind of word play you just don’t get at other legal blogs. So vote for this one! Recruit the votes of alternate universe incarnations of yourself if necessary. Just don’t deal with any selfs with goatees.

Agreed. The other stuff is Okay because how else would be learn from Mike Spindell’s insight?
Now, let’s please get back to the T-Blawg Vote Count thread.
218 v. 184 WoW! That is a big difference of…oh, whatever…
Mike,
I trust the Prof’s judgment on this one, he always errs on the side of free speech. The most vile of the comments (and the ones I think he’d want to remove) are easily overlooked in the whole discussion, so I wanted to bring them to attention.
I think as hate filled as MrB is, he deserves his voice. It’s the howling obscenities that need to go.
Gyges and Buddha,
I thank you for your support and good work on the “Bike Lane” thread, but I’m of mixed mind about banning them. What I’ve found instructive is the range of comments from mbinary’s more sophisticated (if you can indeed call it sophisticated), to Bibi’s feeble attempts at irony, to MrB’s outright hatred to a whole further group that appears to be of the White Supremicist variety. Hatred wears many hats and at times it’s instructive to see the gamut.
Where I do see it as bad for the blog is that new site visitors, coming to that thread, would certainly develop incorrect opinions as to our sites overall content. Unfortunatle as the past five decades have taught us it is a crazy world out there and do we gain anything by shutting out the violent ward. I don’t really know.
Professor Turley–
Regarding the exact human duplicates we’ve been growing in an abandoned greenhouse in an undisclosed location: They’ve been thriving–getting bigger and bigger and bigger every day. In fact, most had a tremendous growth spurt over the weekend. This project is turning out better than I had imagined when the idea was first conceived–probably because of the strict podimentary procedures we put in place before the start of our body snatching process. The majority of pods are near maturity. It looks like the human duplicates are near ready to burst out of their tight, bumpy green skins. We’ll be in need of some computers and a wifi setup here soon so our pod people can cast their blawg votes as soon as they emerge/are reborn as Turleyistas.
Aye, the Bike Lane thread got some real troll filth on it. I’m all for your maximum free speech here Prof., but some of that thread? It is fairly revolting. Prof, I think you know me well enough by now to know I have no shortage of vitriol for both illogic and intolerance (along with several other bad behaviors like greed, etc.).
When I saw that first long run of anti-Semitic crap the trolls had posted during the night on that thread?
I was actually at a loss for words as to how to attack them. (Yeah. I know. That’s almost as unexpected as gravity failing.)
It was such a stunning display of raw naked hatred all I could do was look at it with a kind of recoiling awe that someone actually can walk about with that much hate in themselves and not spontaneously combust.
Jill: “FFLEO,
Lottakatz is very proper and I’m certain she did not mean what she posted. ”

Thank you for your high opinion of me, it means a lot to me but my proper-ness is exceeded only by my loyalty.
🙂 Trolling the kinds of sites where one was likely to find Merkin-voters so that they could be recruited to vote for the Turley blog would be a dirty and thankless job but if the Professor needed us to, well, I just couldn’t refuse could I? It would be for such a good cause after all. 🙂

Ummmm, I’m seconding Gyges suggestion re:

That thread needs to be scrubbed with bleach and that’s a very hard thing for me to say. But it’s true.
FFLEO,
Lottakatz is very proper and I’m certain she did not mean what she posted. This is what she meant to link to:

P.S. I second her opinion of you!
