Below is my column in The Hill on the expected formal vote this week on the impeachment inquiry. The vote is only to continue to look into the allegations that President Joe Biden knew of the influence peddling operation of his family and fostered those efforts. The final line of defense is to acknowledge that this was influence peddling but that Biden was only trying to support his son. The question for this vote is: how do you know? We have millions raised in what most view as corrupt influence peddling. Many of those payments are now confirmed by the Justice Department in the second Hunter Biden indictment. Only an investigation will establish the truth on the President’s knowledge and involvement. Yet, for years, Democratic members have opposed any investigation. They now face a moment of truth.
There is an interesting controversy brewing between NBC and the Trump campaign over a parody using the image of NBC News senior Capitol Hill correspondent Garrett Haake. The network has asked the campaign to take down the video that attacks Trump’s political opponents while using a voiceover that sounds like Haake. While Trump senior adviser Chris LaCivita has pointed out that this is parody “to keep @NBCNews Lawyers off my a**,” it may not be enough. NBC could have a case under torts. Below is my column in The Messenger on President Joe Biden continuing his claim of having no knowledge or interaction with the business associates of his son and brothers. With the formal vote on an impeachment inquiry planned for this coming week, the absurd denial shows that the President is now trapped in the amber of this corruption scandal — unable to acknowledge the obvious falsity of his past statements.
Today is the anniversary of Wyoming becoming the first territory or state to grant women the right to vote on December 10, 1869. Not Massachusetts. Not Pennsylvania. Not New York. Wyoming. The reason for the decision is hotly debated and I would have preferred simply a frontier appreciation for freedom. Below is my column in the New York Post on the second indictment of Hunter Biden. The tax evasion charges were brought in a type of Voldemort indictment, skillfully detailing millions acquired from influence peddling without mentioning “he who must not be named.” Indeed, it says nothing of how or why millions were sent to Hunter.
I have previously written how New York has been the gift that keeps on giving for the National Rifle Association and other gun rights groups. The state legislature continues to crank out flagrantly unconstitutional gun control laws to please its political base, but the result is to further expand gun rights with a litany of court losses. Rep. Summer Lee (D., Pa.) has long been a voice for censorship, attacking those who seek to restore free speech on social media. Lee’s curious view of free speech was on display this week when she attacked witnesses, including Riley Gaines, as hateful and transphobic but then tried to censor Gaines when she responded to Lee’s attack as misogynistic. Lee withdrew the demand to take down the comments, though it captured the essence of how many on the left insist that they have a right to attack others but seek to censor those same individuals when they respond in kind. Special Counsel David Weiss filed a blistering opposition to Hunter Biden’s request to subpoena former President Trump and other former officials in his ongoing federal trial. On Tuesday, Weiss felt it necessary to remind Hunter that his “father, Joseph R. Biden, is the President of the United States” and his administration brought these charges. Below is my Fox.com column on the upcoming deposition of Hunter Biden and the speculation on which Hunter will appear: the business genius, the blacked-out junkie, or the hunted son. The Biden team and the media have tried a variety of different images to evade allegations of corruption through the years. That is likely to come to an end this month as Congress seeks clarity on a variety of questions.
United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has issued a warning that a story about its staff holding hostages in Gaza is possible “misinformation” and should be removed from the media. The UN has long supported censorship and we previously discussed how figures like World Health Organization (WHO) head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called for such action to combat what he called the “infodemic” — a claim made as his own organization came under fire for its actions vis-a-vis China on the pandemic.
